About Department

The Bachelor of Business Administration in Banking and Investment Management (BIM) at IUK is an undergraduate degree that is carefully designed to prepare students to be key players in the financial world, including the banking sector, investment companies, and financial institutions. The program's main objective is to provide Kuwait's market with professional graduates equipped with the required skills and knowledge and capable of achieving Kuwait's vision (New Kuwait). With the program's unique structure, graduates will enhance their opportunities for professional growth and career advancement through carefully planned practical components that include a practicum in Business and an internship experience. The program prepares the graduates to be professionals in banking and financial institutions and investment management.


Department Mission

The mission of the Banking and Investment Management program is to develop professionals who will support the "New Kuwait" vision and the growth of business enterprises within Kuwait and the region. The program emphasizes developing discipline-specific skills and competencies, making graduates highly competitive practitioners well-positioned in the healthcare domain.

    Graduates of the program are expected to:

  • Apply extensive knowledge and skills focused on the development of the Banking and investment sectors.
  • Build both theoretical and practical 'banking and investment' related skills and competencies required in this domain, such as retail, corporate, investment management, financial planning, and risk management.
  • Foster effective critical thinking, analytical, research, and communication skills and generate solutions to problems in the financial environment.
  • Function effectively in the business-related domains of the financial ecosystem such as governance, strategic planning, finance, management, leadership, marketing, and information systems.

B.BA. Banking and Investment Management

  • Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

The Banking and Investment Management Degree provides students with a solid foundation that will enable them to effectively perform key tasks and roles in the Banking and investment industry. The primary program educational objective of the program is to provide the banking and investment industry with proficient and well-rounded individuals who will demonstrate they are:

  • Knowledgeable and skillful
  • Entrepreneurial
  • Innovative and creative thinkers
  • Effective collaborators
  • Responsible citizens

This will ensure that in a period of five years, IUK graduates with the breadth of their robust and practical education will be middle management decision-makers. They will consistently be able to contribute analytical input into their organization’s strategic process.

Within 5 to 7 years of graduation, program’s graduates will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate expertise in dealing with contemporary Banking and investment operations, systems, and issues
  2. Function effectively with colleagues in private and public entities to creatively, ethically, and competently influence the Banking and investment sector.
  3. Recommend strategic solutions to Banking and investment concerns and act as a member of the leadership team to implement these solutions.
  4. Choose to engage with continuous professional development and lifelong learning to remain current both in the Banking and investment domain.
  5. Function as a mid-level manager in the Banking industry or as an entrepreneur contributing to the development of strategies and policies.
  6. Rule on banking and ethical matters in consultation with the national regulatory bodies of banking and investment.
  • Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)

Program Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) describe the knowledge, skills, and competencies graduates possess upon graduation. Immediately upon graduation, program’s graduates will be able to:

  1. Contrast the functions, roles, and products of banks and financial intermediaries, both within Kuwait, regionally and internationally.
  2. Analyze the value of high-yielding functions, products, and services along the delivery value chain of performance and profitability.
  3. Demonstrate fluency in banking and investment-related problem solving techniques to develop alternative solutions.
  4. Interpret data to predict manage, and influence the behaviors of customers, and to identify trends and opportunities in banking and investment services.
  5. Interpret the rights, duties and compliance requirements of financial intermediaries and their customers, and apply ethical principles in unregulated areas.
  6. Model high levels of customer service, communication, etiquette, initiative, and creativity.

Students must complete 126 credits of courses to obtain the Bachelor of Business Administration (B.BA.) in Banking and Investment Management. These requirements are explained in the previous sections and summarized as follows:
