About Department

The Accounting Program offers our students the latest knowledge in the discipline, a well-established foundation in today's accounting concepts and business practices, in addition to new trends in the accounting discipline . The contemporary curriculum of an accounting degree provides students with the required skills and tools to prepare for a career in the accounting domain. All students will study generic business courses together with data analytics and accounting courses to understand and contribute to the corporate context in which accounting functions are performed and to analyze corporate financial statements and provide detailed relevant information to assist in making useful decision. Due to its applied nature, the Accounting Program is unique within the State of Kuwait and will also be aligned with the accounting professional bodies' requirements for certification and international accreditation bodies. For example, the curriculum is aligned to the requirements of leading professional bodies for certification, such as CMA and CPA.

The mission of the Accounting Program is to offer high-quality education in accounting that meets the latest trends in the profession. The program is delivered, by renowned scholars, in a creative environment that enables our students to learn the latest innovative techniques in accounting, build their knowledge through theory, applied, and research in accounting.

B.BA. Accounting

  • Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

The Accounting Degree at IUK provides students with a solid foundation that will enable them to effectively perform key tasks and roles in accounting, audit and business industry.

The primary program educational objective of the B.BA in Accounting is to provide the financial industry with proficient and well-rounded individuals who will demonstrate they are:

  • Knowledgeable and skillful
  • Entrepreneurial
  • Innovative and creative thinkers
  • Effective collaborators
  • Responsible citizens

 

Within 3 to 5 years of graduation, these students will:

  1. Possess extensive knowledge and skills focused on a specific occupation of applied accounting, and be practicing general business analytical skills to inform strategic decision making.
  2. Be Chartered Members of one or more Accounting Professional Bodies and conform to the association’s requirements for professional development and best practice.
  3. Effectively perform in the common business domains such as finance, management, leadership, marketing, and information systems.
  4. Possess the personal and cognitive skills required to be effective in business including effective communication, efficient teamwork, entrepreneurship, and other soft skills, such as time management, supervision, and leadership management.
  5. Demonstrate ethics in business and responsibility to their society and profession. 
  • Student Learning Outcomes (SLO’s)

Student learning outcomes have been developed through a consultative process that has involved the teaching team, students, industry feedback and international benchmarks along with close alignment with professional association standards.

  1. Apply accounting concepts and techniques in business environments.
  2. Utilize financial information, accounting tools and techniques and standards; to prepare financial statements according to international standards.
  3. Use accounting principles, concepts, tools and techniques for budgeting, business planning, decision-making, and financial performance evaluation.
  4. Apply analytical and computational knowledge and skills in accounting to determine major trends in business.
  5. Select financial management principles, tools, and techniques to analyze different issues related to financial performance, investment, and financing.
  • Graduation Requirements: B.BA. Accounting

Students must successfully complete 126 credits of courses to obtain the Bachelor of Business Administration (B.BA.) in Accounting. These requirements are explained in the previous sections and summarized as follows:

  3. Major Requirements (compulsory + elective) 42 credit hours
